Happy Birthday!!

Virginia and Alfred

A Birthday message to Alfred

Happy 98th!

If this were your 48th birthday, I’d be asking about Virginia and the girls and what you thought about the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy.
If you were celebrating #58, I’d want to know if you and Virginia had seen the new movie, “Animal House,” because it’s a riot.
When #68 rolled around, I’d want to know your reaction to Sonny Bono winning the mayoral race in Palm Springs.  What’s the world coming to?
When you reached #78, I’d ask if you heard anything about a new internet startup called “google” and if you knew what services it planned to offer and if you thought it would be successful.
Reaching #88 was quite the feat and I would want you to focus your ample years of observing politics and comment on the significance of Barack Obama’s election as our 44th president within the context of him being our first Black president.
Reaching #98 is a rare and much treasured milestone.
It is so rare, it is celebrated by fewer than 1 in 5,000 people.
You’ve overcome some monstrous odds to make it this far and all I can think of asking you now is,

“What do you want for your 100th birthday?”

Love you longtime.
